How to Watch Liga MX in the US

Published

Good news, nephew: watching Mexican fútbol in the US has never been easier. Bad news: the rights are split up so much it can get confusing. El Tío sorts it out for you.

The catch: rights are split by club. Here is the thing that trips everybody up. In the US, Liga MX broadcast rights are divided club by club, not one package for the whole league. So where you watch depends on who is playing, usually following the home team's deal. That is why no single service has every game.

The Spanish-language routes (most of the league). Most clubs, including América, Cruz Azul, and Pumas, live on TelevisaUnivision: Univision and UniMás on free over-the-air TV, TUDN on cable, and ViX Premium for streaming (around $6.99 a month). Chivas home games are on Telemundo with a Peacock simulcast. Several clubs air on FOX Deportes.

New for English speakers. This is big if Spanish is not your first language, nephew. Paramount Plus and CBS Sports Network now carry 40-plus Liga MX matches a season with English commentary, and FOX's FS1 and FS2 air some matches in English too. For the first time, following Liga MX in English is genuinely doable.

The cheapest way in. Univision and UniMás are free over the air, so a simple digital antenna gets you those matches for zero dollars in most markets. For everything else, fuboTV is the common pick because it bundles most of these channels in one place, and ViX Premium is the cheapest single streaming add for the TelevisaUnivision clubs.

El Tío's move: figure out your team first, then follow that club's channel. Do not pay for everything, pay for where your team plays. Which team should you support?
